One flattened JPG, not editable layers

A PSD can hold layers, masks, editable text, smart objects, and other editing data; JPG cannot. ImageNow exports the composite image stored when the PSD was last saved as one flattened JPG instead of rendering each layer again. Keep the original PSD if you need to edit the design later.

Which PSD files are supported?

The browser decoder works with standard PSD documents that contain a readable 8-bit RGB or grayscale composite. CMYK, LAB, indexed, duotone, multichannel, and 16-bit PSDs may not convert; PSB files and PSDs without a usable composite are not supported. A file can be up to 100 MB, with a canvas no larger than 16,384 pixels on either side or 40 million pixels in total.

What the JPG output keeps

The JPG keeps the PSD canvas dimensions and the appearance stored in its readable composite, including the layer visibility saved at that time. Transparent areas become white, and source metadata and Photoshop editing data are not copied to the JPG.

Why the JPG can differ from what you saw in Photoshop

ImageNow exports the composite image Photoshop wrote the last time the file was saved — it does not re-render the layer stack. If someone hid a layer, changed an adjustment layer or edited a smart object and closed without saving, the JPG shows the last saved state instead. Reopening and re-saving the PSD in Photoshop refreshes that composite.

Can I convert PSD to JPG without Photoshop?

What happens to PSD layers?

The saved composite is exported as one flat JPG. Layers, masks, editable text, smart objects, and other Photoshop editing data are not included and cannot be recovered from the JPG.

Can the converter read CMYK, 16-bit, or PSB files?

CMYK, 16-bit, and other uncommon color modes may not convert, and PSB files are not supported. For reliable results, use a standard 8-bit RGB or grayscale PSD with a saved composite image.

Will fonts and Photoshop effects look the same?

The JPG reflects the composite saved in the PSD, not a fresh Photoshop render. Fonts, effects, smart objects, and layer visibility therefore appear as they did when that composite was saved, provided it is present and readable.

The JPG doesn't match what I see in Photoshop. Why?

The converter uses the composite preview stored in the file, not a fresh render. If the PSD was edited and not saved afterwards, that stored composite is out of date. Open it in Photoshop and save again, then convert.

Can I convert several PSD files at once?

Are my PSD files uploaded to a server?
